Design & Display

HTC One mini is – as the name suggests – the compact model, followed by the HTC One and HTC One Max. The One and One mini with just 9.3 millimeters thick: the One Max is 10.3 millimeters slightly thicker. The display of the Mini One measuring 4.3-inches, the original One has a 4.7-inch screen and the Max One has a very large screen of 5.9-inch. The original One and One Max SuperLCD3 both have a display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). The One has a mini SuperLCD2 display with resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (HD). All three devices use scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. The One Max is the only on the back of a fingerprint scanner. For this you can save three different fingerprints, which you can lock, unlock the device or app to boot.

OS

The original HTC One came with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the HTC Sense interface 5. It was the first device with HTC Blink Feed, which updates and news directly on the homescreen to follow. An Android 4.2 update is now available for the One: an Android 4.3 update will probably follow later. The HTC One mini comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and is just like the original use of the HTC Sense interface with 5 HTC Blink Feed. The HTC One Max features of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and is HTC’s first phone with HTC Sense 5.5 interface. In this new interface are some improvements made for HTC Blink Feed: it can be further refined by adjusting subject categories and new integration with content providers like Instagram and Google+. HTC Sense 5.5 is also available for One and One mini.

Processor

HTC One and HTC One Max have the same chipset on board: a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (with 2GB RAM). The mini HTC One has to do with a less powerful 1.4 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 400 (with 1GB RAM).

Memory

HTC One comes in versions with 32GB or 64GB memory. The One mini is only available with 16GB. The One Max you have a choice of 16GB or 32GB storage memory. The One Max is the only model with a microSD card slot: the memory of the original One and One mini is not expandable via microSD

.

Camera

Both the HTC One, the One and the One mini Max feature a 4-megapixel Ultra Pixel camera with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recorder. According to HTC captures the Ultra Pixel Camera 300 percent more light than traditional camera sensors, so you make good pictures even in low light conditions. The original One is the only device where the camera has optical image stabilization: this is missing on the mini One and the One Max. The One and the One Max have also a 2.1-megapixel Full HD front camera, the One mini features a 1.6-megapixel HD front camera.

Conclusion

The differences between the HTC One (4.7-inch, 699 euros), the Mini One (4.3-inch, 449 euros) and the Max One (5.9-inch, 749 euros) you find especially in size and price. In terms of operating system is – thanks to (future) updates – not much difference. The camera is pretty much the same on all models, though the original HTC One the only model with optical image stabilization. The processors of the One and Max are equally powerful, the Mini One should take a step back here. Finally, the One Max is the only unit in the One series with a microSD card slot and a fingerprint scanner. Which model you prefer, therefore will therefore largely depend on to what format you prefer and how much budget you have.
