Review HTC One Max: created big - ZDNet.be

Since the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Note has just about every smartphone manufacturer with an inferiority complex. Everyone should now suddenly have a ‘big’. Sony did it before with the Xperia S Ultra, and now comes up with the HTC One Max.

That’s an oversized One, but with some additional modifications: the back cover off you get to place a SIM or SD card. The battery can not, however, draw an odd choice from HTC. Around the edges of the One Max makes more use of plastic with respect to the One.

Giant Format

His huge 5.9 inch display has a Full HD resolution and looks beautiful. The HTC One has one of the best scenes of this time, and the same applies to the One Max. The colors are more accurate than the Galaxy 3 Samsung, and the brightness is higher than the Sony Xperia S Ultra.

Such a large screen automatically means a great handset, and that feeling you experience directly with the One Max. Especially the sharp edges top and bottom make the device very rude. The main reason for the Boom stereo sound speakers. We’re not crazy about the appointment Boom sound, but the sound is by far the best we have ever heard. Smartphone

Work

A large unit automatically means a big screen, but also a big battery. The HTC One Max comes with a hefty 3,300 mAh battery, but still scores below what our expectations. The Xperia Z Ultra has a smaller 3050 mAh battery, but it achieves better results.

Internally we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7 Ghz quad-core chip and 2GB of RAM. That was when the spec HTC One came out, but now the crown at a much faster Snapdragon 800. Of course you do not notice a big difference in use, but this spicy price tag HTC had more trouble should do. Safely For example, the Xperia S Ultra does use the Snapdragon 800.

Somewhere there is Android 4.3 in this One Max, but the heavy HTC Sense 5.5 skin that makes difficult to see. Generally there are the same functions as the One, such as Blink Feed, Zoe and all other visual changes. Blink Feed has now have more customization options to optimize your taste but we are still not in favor of the concept. There is also no way to turn off.

The main innovation lies in the fingerprint scanner on the back of the unit. Where would they have that idea come from anyway? It looks like a rush job, because the controls on the back is not user-friendly. 60 percent of the time I managed to unlock the phone, and that’s too little. Because it is a great phone, you have to hold it and wipe your oblique. Once the phone is unlocked, the scanner has no additional function. We switched the function very quickly.

We wonder why such a large smartphone HTC has released without custom software? The Max One simply increases all apps and applications of the original One, no additional optimizations. Why not multitask with windows? Or stylus support? The HTC One Max is perfect for gaming or watching videos, but nothing more. A missed opportunity, possibly the result of hurried work to catch up.
