The patent in question describes software that allows two phones to communicate via Bluetooth or NFC and exchange data in this way with each other. HTC must ensure that devices do not infringe on the patent, or to take a license to the patent at Nokia.

Nokia must vouch for 400 million euros to ratify the ruling. HTC may claim that money if it is still on appeal vindicated and can show they have suffered injury. It is not yet known whether Nokia’re actually going to pay for it.
