One Max is the big brother of the original One, but more similar in design to the Mini One. The Mini and Max do have an aluminum body, but as a plastic edge finish and less nicely and concealed buttons.

With a suggested retail price of 749 euros was well finished casing of the original One have been welcome.

Despite the Max feels sturdy and robust, but the device is quite heavy with 217 grams and 10.3 millimeters pretty thick. The unit is due to the size not really nice in the hand, but that’s almost logical in this category.

Fingerprint Scanner

A big difference with the One is the fingerprint scanner. The sensor is on the back just below the camera lens. That place is not ideal. The user must drag his finger over the sensor to use it and it works only if the finger is right on the scanner. Because Max that is great and you can not see, the back is often scanning error. Use a password to unlock is much simpler.

addition is the camera lens just above the sensor so that is rapidly dirty. The user can associate a specific app to three fingers that opens immediately after release, if you can. This addition takes in practice too much work and think you have to constantly reposition your hand.

screen and camera

5.9 inch full HD screen is similar to that of the One. This means that the best brightness at this time is available, and excellent color reproduction, contrast and black display.

The speakers on the front of the phone are the same and produce excellent sound for a smartphone.

Finally, the camera also unchanged. The 4.3 megapixel ultra-pixel camera captures the extra large pixels more light. The performance is sufficient. The camera of the Max works very quickly, but lacks optical image stabilization. Moreover, the resolution for many photos that you share on social media enough, but not always sufficient. Also, the dynamic range is not impressive and his pictures occasionally overexposed.

speed and battery

Snapdragon processor 600 is new for HTC. The chip does its job properly and everything works smoothly. However, the latest Android smartphones have all the Snapdragon 800 variant. Almost Who is better prepared for the future and load heavy apps and games a little faster.

The battery life of Max is remarkably good. This is possible thanks to the large battery of 3300 mAh. If one day you regularly check social media, occasionally using the browser, several emails sent, occasionally calling and playing a game, the Max assured early to the late evening of the morning with it.

In our video test where we constantly let you play with the sound and wifi on and brightness at about two-thirds a movie keeps Max even 12.5 hours full.

Conclusion

Despite the high price, the Max unfortunately not the same case as his little brother. The processor and camera had something better. Moreover, the difference in screen size is very large, HTC was allowed to keep. Hesitate slightly smaller The excellent Galaxy Note 3 is a lot handier. The Max does have an excellent screen, great battery life and impressive speakers, but many share the huge phablet HTC probably will not yield.
